The Bundesliga is at the top of the chain when it comes to the German soccer league system. In other words, it’s the top-flight. Founded in 1963, it’s also considered one of the top five European leagues alongside the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and Ligue 1.

A total of 58 teams have played in the Bundesliga, but none have been as successful as Bayern Munich. The Reds have won 34 Bundesliga titles (35 German titles overall), including most of the recent ones with only one interruption. They’re followed by FC Nurnberg with nine and Borussia Dortmund with eight. Precisely, Dortmund was the last team (in 2011-12) to prevent Bayern from fulfilling their role as Germany Bundesliga betting favorites before Bayer Leverkusen broke the long streak in 2023-24.

Due to Bayern’s dominance, many believe that the Bundesliga isn’t a competitive tournament, but Bundesliga teams have won the UEFA Champions League eight times and the UEFA Europa League seven times. Most recently, Bayern Munich won the UCL in the 2019-20 season, while Eintracht Frankfurt won the UEL in 2021-22.

Individually, plenty of legends forged part of their history in the Bundesliga, including Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Muller, Lothar Matthaus, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Manuel Neuer, Oliver Kahn, to name a few. And we can’t forget about coaches like Pep Guardiola, Jupp Heynckes, Carlo Ancelotti, and Jurgen Klopp, who were also attracted by the greatness of the Germany Bundesliga.

How the Championship Works

Unlike most of the top European soccer leagues, which consist of 20 teams, the Germany Bundesliga consists of 18. That means that the season consists of 34 fixtures since each team faces the other 17 twice, one at home, one on the road.

The winner of each match gets three points, while the loser gets zero. If the match finishes with a draw, each team gets a point. At the end of the season, the team with the most points wins the title.

The crowned team also qualifies for the UEFA Champions League. Speaking of the UCL, second, third and fourth place also qualify for the top continental tournament. Fifth and sixth qualify for the UEFA Europa League, while seventh qualifies for the UEFA Conference League.

While the top seven teams have something to celebrate, for the last three it’s quite the opposite. Eighteenth and 17th are relegated to the Bundesliga 2. On the other hand, 16th place must play a two-legged series against the team that finished third in the Bundesliga 2. The winner gets to play in the top-flight the next season.

All 18 teams also play in the domestic cup, better known as the DFB Pokal. Besides winning a lot of money, the champion also qualifies for the UEL. The favorite in the Germany Bundesliga odds is usually also the favorite to win the DFB Pokal, at least prior to the start of the season.

Title Contenders

We can’t start talking about Bundesliga title contenders without talking about Bayern Munich. As mentioned before, the Reds have dominated most recent seasons and won the title in 2024-25 and 2025-26 under Vincent Kompany. However, the 2023-24 season saw Bayer Leverkusen break their streak.

For the upcoming seasons, the squad remains strong with key players like Harry Kane (top scorer with 36 goals in 2025-26) and Jamal Musiala.

Dortmund always comes second in the Germany Bundesliga lines. The Black and Yellows always put up a good fight but also have a hard time closing the deal. As if that wasn’t enough, they have had key departures in past windows.

If you were looking for a dark horse, RB Leipzig is a good option. They consistently challenge for top spots (e.g., finishing 3rd in 2025-26) and have strong attacking talent.

How to Bet on Bundesliga 1

The Bundesliga is one of the most prestigious and popular soccer leagues globally, and it is possible to make a lot of money betting on it, but only if you know how to do it right! People who aren’t very good at betting should start with small bets and not get too comfortable.

All Markets – Make Money from Them All!

Use all available Bundesliga betting markets, not just the ones you know. You can bet on the Bundesliga even if you don’t follow the season. However, when you keep an eye on the league, you’ll have a better chance of winning!

The home-field advantage is very important to think about. At home, teams usually do better because their fans cheer them on. However, sometimes even the best teams may have rough patches when playing away from home.

In addition, it is important to look at the results of inter-club competitions. Some teams always seem to win against certain opponents for various reasons, while other teams always seem to lose in certain games.

In addition, it is important to think about the recent form of the team. For instance, there are a lot of bookmakers who say that Bayern Munich is the clear favorite to beat Wolfsburg. Therefore, it might not be best to back the title holders when they have a bad run and problems in camp, and Wolfsburg has a good run.

Prop Bets

With the Bundesliga, many different things could happen. So, in addition to the standard match and futures markets, many bookmakers offer “props,” extra bets. There are a lot of single-game sales that are very popular and profitable in this category. A bet could be made on any player scoring or being booked.

When betting on single-game Bundesliga props, the following things are important to keep in mind. It’s important to look at recent short-term changes in your field. Make sure to look at the performance trends of certain players or teams to figure out where they’re going next.

Explore how the two teams’ styles might work together during the game. Use your opponent’s flaws to your advantage by figuring out which side has the most powerful style of play.

In addition, depending on which Bundesliga prop bet you choose, other variables like the referee, the weather, the pitch condition, and home advantage may all play a role. Everything that could impact the market should be included in your preparations; since no two props are the same, your ability to adapt and notice even the smallest details will be very important for your job.

As far as long-term props go, there is no difference. The next manager who is fired, how many points a team scores, and more are some of the things you can bet on online. The first step in your plan is to write down everything that could affect how it turns out.

Important Teams to Play

Most renowned German clubs include Bayern Munich, Schalke 04, VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Werder Bremen, and Bayer Leverkusen.
