How to Place Parlay Bets in Canada (Guide)

One of the most popular sports bets in the world is the parlay bet. Even in places where its structure isn't understood, its concept is perhaps as familiar as any sports bet. For potential winnings, combining multiple bets not only increases the odds, but also creates the most enticing piece of risk and reward for bettors.

A parlay bet does this by allowing bettors to combine a series of individual bets, with the stipulation that they all have to win for the bettor to break even on the individual payouts.

Parlay Betting Explained: What Is Parlay Betting?

In the field of athletics, you can find many betting lines that offer all sorts of oddities. When their picks do not pay much, fans begin to select numbers that are larger than a single bet. A progressive parlay involves selecting more than one team on a single bet. Adding more teams increases the odds you are now rooting for and can increase your total payout. Remember, a parlay only pays out if all the teams you've selected do what you've predicted.

There are many forms of parlay bets and their combinations depend on the amounts a player wants to win. You can create 15-team parlay odds every two weeks by mixing different sports to increase the total payout. For example, bettors often select different games from different sports. Here's a sampling of the different forms of parlay bets you can find at Canadian betting sites.

Should You Bet Parlays?

There's no clear answer to the question of whether or not to bet parlays. Although parlays don't often win (and have even been called the "poor man's bet" because of how few times they hit), sportsbooks make a lot of money from this increasingly popular wager. The potential payout from a parlay can be quite substantial, and for that reason many bettors still place them. However, if you're going to bet on a parlay, make sure you do so with a real understanding of what's going on with the games involved and how parlays themselves work. And for now, just bet small.

Remembering the process is key. This is true when evaluating any type of bet, including parlay bets. It is important to understand what you are betting on and why you are betting on it. A strategy is only a strategy if it has an objective. And the goal should not be some long lost, never to be seen again destination. It should be a way to travel, a fun way to travel, with the potential for some big payoffs along the way.

Types of Parlay Odds & Payouts

Understanding that parlay works better when you have more bets on your card, you can combine multiple lines to increase your potential payout. Below are some of the most popular parlay combinations chosen by Canadian online gamblers.

  • Money Line Parlay Bets - This bet involves selecting the outcome of more than one tie in a single bet. All of the teams you have picked as favorites must win their respective games for the bet card to pay out.
  • Futures Parlay - A bet card for this type of parlay may consist of predictions on the outcome of the tournament, naming the winners of each game in a series involving a team that is predicted to win the round-robin.
  • Over/Under Bets - Players who are concerned about betting on the exact score of multiple teams can predict the total number of points scored in each game. This is a relatively safe bet as each league competition generally has an expected average number of goals per game over time.
  • Point Spread Parlays - Parlays in sports betting are bets on the point spread. In point spread betting, the bookmaker picks one or more teams to be the favorite. These teams must win by a certain number of points for the bet to pay. When parlays include point spread bets, the payoff is greatly increased. To win these parlay bets, players must also win the point spread bets. }

Pros Of A Parlay Bet

Combining two or more individual bets into one larger bet is what parlay betting is all about. And this type of sports betting has some real advantages. For one, the potential payouts are much higher because the winnings are multiplied if all the individual bets are correct. For another, parlay bets can be less risky because all the individual bets have to be correct for you to win. Of course, this means that the entire parlay is lost if one of the individual bets is wrong, but the thrill of a huge payout makes this a risk worth taking. Also, parlay bets are simply easier to work with - no adding up odds and no figuring out stakes for multiple separate bets. As favorable as all this sounds, are parlay bets really a good idea?

Cons Of A Parlay Bet

Betting on the outcome of several sporting events at the same time is called parlay sports betting. This type of betting gives the bettor a chance to win larger payouts than they could get by betting on a single event. Although winning parlays is usually a much tougher proposition, they are a popular form of betting because of the potential payday. Most sportsbooks allow bettors to combine all sorts of different events when making a parlay. And while many bettors typically use either the NFL or college football when building a parlay, almost any sport you can think of is fair game.

Parlay betting is a widely accepted and practiced form of sports betting that consists of placing multiple bets on a single game or multiple games. The bettor, in this case, is looking for a larger payout and using this form of betting, they can achieve this goal. The house edge in parlay betting is approximately 15%, which is higher than the average house edge in sports betting, which usually ranges from 4% to 10%.

If you're considering entering the world of parlay sports betting, you need to understand that this type of betting tends to lose more often than individual bets placed separately. This could potentially put your bankroll in jeopardy and compromise the practice of responsible gambling.

Sports Parlay Betting System

In order to win all your bets, you need to have the best parlay strategy. There are different betting strategies for different types of events, all of which depend on a player's performance on a given day.

  • Parlay bets with two or three teams are the most common bets made by gamblers. By placing a sizable bet on these picks and hitting them, we can increase our winnings and our chances of hitting these types of bets. They are safer than betting on four or more lines on the same ticket.
  • Most gamblers combine parlay betting lines to take advantage of the different odds in each betting market. For example, a bettor may place a bet on a National Basketball Association playoff game and a bet on a cricket match to increase his total payout.
  • Players should be aware that parlay payouts vary depending on the specific combinations selected. A parlay that includes only the favorites might pay out at a rate between straight bets and parlays that include some underdogs. In other words, if a player wants to make a serious profit on a money line parlay, he or she is best served by including one or more underdogs in the mix.
  • It is also wise to note how the parlay calculator works. The odds on each bet are calculated by the bookmaker. Therefore, the more the parlay bet accumulates, the higher the risk and the more the bookmaker charges.

Betting should stay a game

GamblingKingz is an independent Canadian casino and betting guide. We are not an operator and we take no bets. Every site here is checked for three things: whether it is registered with AGCO and iGaming Ontario or holds only an offshore licence, whether it keeps balances in Canadian dollars and pays out through Interac, iDebit, Instadebit or a Canadian bank, and whether the bonus it advertises has terms a player can actually read. Links to operators are commercial; the order of our table does not depend on them, and where a brand has no verified Canadian bonus figure we leave the row out rather than convert a euro package into dollars. Ontario-registered sites are not allowed to publish welcome offers to Ontario players, so the figures shown for those brands are the rest-of-Canada offer. Bonus terms, limits and payout times change — read the operator's own terms before you deposit.

Canada licenses gambling province by province, not federally. Ontario has run an open market since 4 April 2022: an operator registers with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and signs an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario (iGO) — 48 operators and 82 sites were on the register as of 22 July 2026. Alberta opened second, on 13 July 2026, under the iGaming Alberta Act, with AGLC as the regulator. Every other province runs its own operator instead — PlayNow in British Columbia, Loto-Québec, Atlantic Lottery, PlayAlberta — and issues no private online licences, so residents elsewhere play on offshore sites, which is not an offence for the player. The Kahnawake Gaming Commission, inside Quebec, has licensed offshore operators since 1999. Recreational winnings are not taxable in Canada; playing professionally is the exception.
