Famous London Fox Poker Club Closes
London's first legal land poker club, the Fox Poker Club, made a surprise announcement earlier this week that it was closing its doors indefinitely.
The single tweet came on Monday, December 10th at 8.30 am, which read: "Fox Poker Club is now CLOSED. Thanks to all of our customers for supporting the club over the past two years."
A further tweet came a little later, explaining that all funds, such as player deposits, tournament tokens and cash chips would be redeemable at the Mint in Kensington "soon".
The only hint of things to come came in the final tweet issued by operators, Genting UK, which read: "The club may be closed but the location will be refurbished and reborn in Spring 2013 as an exciting new Genting venue."
Poker Club Closes with Immediate Effect
A statement on the Fox Poker Club's website reads: "It is with regret that the Fox Poker Club will cease operation. The Management and Staff of Fox Poker Club would like to thank all of its customers for supporting the venture over the past two years. Further information will be released shortly."
There was no forewarning by Genting UK that it intended shutting the doors of London's most popular poker haunt for local recreational players, as well as the few sharks who also frequented the location.
It was only this weekend that the Genting Poker Series Grand Final was held at the club, and by the number of attendees, it was clear that the event was a huge success.
However, Genting UK has now stated that all future poker tournament have been cancelled and will not been rescheduled.
Good Central London Poker Room
The Fox Poker Club opened officially in September 2010 after a number of teething problems which saw the launch date postponed several times.
The popularity of the club was put down to a good mix of games, tournaments and stakes, making it a popular destination for players at all levels. A £10 membership didn't deter the thousands from joining the club, and last January, the Fox Poker Club welcomed its 10,000th member.
The central London location, as well as good service and the availability of slot machines and an alcohol bar, made this a popular destination for locals and tourists.
Genting UK has promised more information, and it's worth watching this space to see how the story develops and to understand why the London Fox Poker Club closes.
